All Eyes will be on Los Angeles in 2028

Every four years, the world unites for one of the biggest sporting events in the world. While most will enjoy the Summer Games from their screens, those in attendance in L.A. will experience something extraordinary. They’ll be part of history, witnessing those special moments that will be talked about for generations and reveling in the electric atmosphere that seems to exist only at the Games. If there’s one sporting event that should be on your bucket list, it’s this one.

Los Angeles is sure to make a wonderful host city and will also have the honor of introducing 5 new sports to the Summer Games: flag football and squash, along with the return of baseball/softball, lacrosse, and cricket.

LA Metro’s long range transportation plan includes the Twenty-Eight by ’28 initiative, a $42.9 billion plan outlining 28 transportation improvements with a goal of completion by 2028. This includes dedicated lanes to venues for Summer Games vehicles, including spectator buses. In addition, it was announced in April 2024 that the city of L.A. secured nearly $900 million in federal funding towards transportation and infrastructure projects in advance of the 2028 Summer Games. To further eliminate traffic congestion, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass is pushing for a “no-car Games,” promoting public transportation to Summer Games venues and encouraging remote work for L.A. locals during the Summer Games period.

Los Angeles

Much of Los Angeles lies in a fairly flat basin, surrounded by mountains and ocean. Although the Santa Monica Mountains, one of the most unheralded of the city’s remaining natural treasures, splits LA between the familiar sights of La-La Land to the south and the charmless suburbs to the north, the metropolis is easily traversed. Places for visitors to explore include Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire, the central strip of Wilshire Boulevard with faded Art Deco "Miracle Mile" zone and good museums, and the beach towns of Santa Monica and Venice, where visitors can stroll along the former’s remodeled pier and Third Street Promenade outdoor mall, or visit the latter’s famed Muscle Beach and oceanside Boardwalk. Lengthier trips to LA may include the old-fashioned charm of Old Pasadena, home of ever-popular Rose Parade and Bowl, Downtown, site of much city heritage and setting for what skyscrapers the area does have, the South Bay, the place to find the region’s second biggest city of Long Beach, and Malibu, where visitors can try to get a glimpse of movie stars and assorted celebrities.
