This 10-day Chile and Argentina vacation takes you through Patagonia, one of the world’s most dramatic wildernesses, where massive glaciers cut their way through the soaring Andes.
Your Chile vacation begins in Santiago, the capital and one of South America’s most culturally-active cities. A city tour helps you get your bearings before you spend the rest of your time exploring on your own. On the tour, you’ll see the big sights such as the Palacio de la Moneda, Parque Forestal, and artsy Bellavista. Take the time to also see the view from Santa Lucia Hill. Once you’re finished in the city, fly to Punta Arenas, Chile’s gateway to Patagonia and Torres del Paine National Park.
In Torres del Paine National Park, you’ll stay three nights at the Hotel Las Torres, with all your activities included with accommodations. Spend your days however you wish; if you’re wanting a more active adventure, opt for horseback riding and boat excursions, while if you need a gentler pace, walking tours up to the Towers, the three monoliths that rise almost 2,900 metres high and define the park, will satisfy your needs. All tours within the park are tailored to your needs and each excursion has its own geographical and thematic focus, to make sure you experience the totality of the park’s natural achievement.
Cross over into Argentina, where you’ll spend two nights in El Calafate, with a full day excursion to Perito Moreno. The highlight of Argentine Patagonia is Moreno Glacier, a 30-kilometre river of ice that’s five kilometres wide. If you’re lucky, you’ll witness chunks of ice calve from the glacier and plunge into Lago Argentino below.
After you’ve sampled the natural wonders of Patagonia on your Argentina vacation, it’s time to fly to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina where Europe meets Latin America. A half-day tour takes you to the major sites and beloved neighbourhoods such as colourful La Boca. You’ll see the Colon Theatre and the famous Casa Rosada, where Eva Peron famously addressed the nation, before ending your tour in Recoleta Cemetery, where Eva Peron is interred. In the evening, you’ll be treated to a dinner and tango show at elegant La Ventana, which will close out your South America vacation in style.
